Truly, all book lovers, especially those willing to thrive on fiction books will find this story a breathtaking experience.

Not only that it inspires dedication and eagerness, but it also examines our way of life.

The Name of the Wind” is more than just a fairy-tale that provides no real value other than amusement.

You must be ready to digest Patrick’s message, and use it if necessary.

Patrick Rothfuss Biography

Patrick Rothfuss is an American gem, a real fantasy master who is renowned for his ability to create a life-altering plot.

He was born on June 6th, 1973 in Wisconsin. Even though he is the receiver of many rewards, Patrick is still humble and dedicated to his work.

Plot

This epic novel is set in motion the minute a traveling scribe decides to roam around the country and discovering new adventures.

Such mission doesn’t produce too much of a comfort, because Chronicler on the road is threatened and assaulted by a monster known by the name of Scrael.

Luckily an innkeeper manages to rescue him also known as Kvothe, which at that time – is a person of high stature.

His abilities extend beyond the standard human capabilities, and despite being a crafty swordsman, he is also hailed for its musical skills.

There’s been a rumor, a serious allegation. This whisper that spreads like a plague reveals that it was Kvothe all along, who is responsible for the assassination of the king.

In other words, he triggered a conflict – information that it’s not an embroidery of the facts. That came out of a clear blue sky and shocked everyone.

After Kvothe acknowledges his mistakes, he accepts to be recorded by Chronicler – giving him a period of three days. He didn’t have any other options to be fair.

It all starts:

Back in the young days, Kvothe was warmly accepted and was allowed to travel with a group of actors.

They performed under the name of Edema Ruh. When Abenthy climbed on board, Kvothe realizes that every sorcery and magic give us a taste of reality. Not something that you can apply so easily in real life, but at the time that was Kvothe’s best chance.

Abenthy practiced many disciplines that provide cover for the process labeled as “sympathy” something that Kvothe have a hard time understanding.

However, nothing comes close to The Name of the Wind, a new skill that grants Kvothe the support he can utilize in times of crisis. Something that he can call upon whenever he feels the urge to do so.

In an unfortunate turn of events, the members of The Edema Ruh fall into the hands of 7 evil beasts. Soon after the capture, they end up murdered by the Chandrian, and Kvothe remains the only one still breathing.

What he saw, and what he witnessed damages his perception; leaving him to beg in the gutter. For the next three years, he remains on the streets, trying to collect as much money as possible.

On the way to regain his reputation, he meets a woman – Denna and instantaneously falls desperately in love with her. The feeling of love works its magic on him. He feels stunned and uplifted at the same time.

Eager to absorb the secrets of arcane learning, he enlists at the country’s university. After clearing his path, he is tested by the official to see whether Kvothe got what it takes to become a fellow scholar.

Kvothe proves that he’s skilled and capable of diving deep into history topics, magic, tricks, you name it.

He immediately catches the eye of another student known as Ambrose. Their rivalry actually begins even before they engage in verbal confrontations.

Ambrose casts doubt on Kvothe’s status, position and intellect seeking a further quarrel.

In the dark corners of the University Library, he begins to conduct in-depth research and specialize in all matters related to the Chandrian.

His actions are not well-received, and the university officials ban him from the archives – stopping his progress.

Now, the lack of money is an incentive enough for him to buy an instrument and perform in a local tavern.

The destiny reunites Kvothe and Denna once more, and their relationship reaches a new level. In the inn, Kvothe is exposed to a lot of gossiping, but one particular rumor shakes his world.

On a wedding day, all the guests were slaughtered by someone. This sequence of events gets him upset and prompts Kvothe to investigate the case.

A savage monster and mythical creature named – Draccus lays at the end of the investigation. Kvothe finally manages to kill him, nearly destroying the entire town in the endeavor.

Upon his arrival to the University, Kvothe and Ambrose exchange a few blows. The clash is followed by hatred and hard feelings between them.

During the fight, Kvothe summons The Wind to his aid and as a result breaks Ambrose’s arm. The enhancement in learning the mythical secrets grants him a few more privileges.

One of the professors – Elodin, teaches its students how to use advanced magic, and Kvothe becomes one of his favorite rookies.

It’s sad to say that the first day of the story does end up in dramatic fashion.

A mercenary apparently a victim of evil forces, attacks patrons with the intention of killing them all. He manages to slaughter just one before he is put to eternal sleep by a young patron.

Bast is unhappy with how things unfold and visits the Chronicler in the middle of the night. His intentions are clear, and he asks the Chronicler to reshape the story, by focusing more on the epic, and fearless parts of it.

The Name of the Wind Epilogue

It’s pretty evident that Kvothe undermines his part in the process and doesn’t endorse his importance in the whole story. Nonetheless, the story-telling is pretty extraordinary and mythical.

Bast and the Chronicler understand that Kvothe is not an every-day person. As his student and assistant, they try to persuade Kvothe to stop sabotaging his performance and role.

As we said, the end practically belongs to Bast and his sincere motives to put Kvothe’s life and adventures under the spotlight.

Our Critical Review

Such a big novel can shake your world, or make you create a new one.

The entire empire is crushed beneath the feat of Evil Beasts, and unfortunately, that’s not a fictional fact.

All the imaginary characters can be found in real life too, and that’s exactly what Patrick is trying to convey. We welcome you to dive into the storyline and to comprehend the sometimes irrational life-currents.
